Windows 7 Removed Grub – What Do I Do? (Short Guide)
So I just installed Windows 7 and it removed GRUB. Huge pain in the ass and a lot of the guides online were confusing. I could only boot into my LiveCD and Windows.
So here’s what I did…
1) Boot into LiveCD
2) Open up root terminal
3) mkdir /mnt/tmp
Note that for me Ubuntu was installed to /dev/sda1. You can check where yours is installed with gparted in the liveCD.
4) mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/tmp
5) grub-install –root-directory=/mnt/tmp /dev/sda
6) Boot into Ubuntu and run update-grub
Hope it works for you.
